Risks of action
Every day we have the choice to take action or stay in our comfort zone. Taking action may feel risky in the moment, but consistently remaining in our comfort zones is far more risky.
As John F. Kennedy said “There are risks and costs to action. But they are far less than the long range risks of comfortable inaction.”
It is human nature to conserve our energy, but having a bias towards action makes us better off in the long term. Even if our actions put us in painful situations, by taking action we gain experience and learn valuable lessons.
3 ways to consider taking action this week.
1. How can I get more flow state? We are all created with a unique set of abilities. By focusing on what we are uniquely wired to do, we give ourselves more opportunities to flow. When in a flow state, we are locked in, feel energized, and enjoy the process.
2. Can I reduce my time between thinking and doing? It can be easy to overthink simple actions. When this happens, reduce the time between thinking and doing. By acting when the thought occurs, we reduce anxiety, reduce overthinking and move with speed.
3. What is the worst that could happen? Sometimes our actions can have terrible consequences. More often, the worst thing that can result from our actions is not that bad. Maybe there is personal embarrassment and wasted time. If the risks of a potential action are not significant, lets ignore our fear and go for it.
