Limits
As we approach the halfway mark in January, it can be easy to give up on our new year resolutions. Maintaining the hard work and commitment required to achieve our goals is challenging, so we might limit ourselves. In fact, most people do. According to Baylor Doctor Asim Shah, 88 percent of people who set New Year resolutions fail within the first two weeks.
The limits that we set on ourselves restrict what we achieve and prevent us from fulfilling our full potential. In running and in life, not setting limits can help us to achieve more.
As marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge says, “no human is limited.”
By believing in ourselves, breaking down our barriers and avoiding limits, we allow ourselves to think big, overcome challenges and accomplish our wildest dreams.
Regardless of what limits we have set on ourselves, lets remove them. As we enter the back half of January, lets be part of the 12% that persists with our new year resolutions. When we avoid limiting on ourselves, we unleash our growth, increase our confidence and set ourselves up to achieve our full potential.
Here are 3 ways to consider limits this week.
1. We slow down as we approach our limits: When we approach a limit (whether natural or self-imposed), we slow down. We conserve energy. By removing limits, we create infinite runway for our growth.
2. We don’t know our full potential: Since we don’t know our true capabilities, why limit ourselves? Until we die, we are discovering our full potential. By becoming better versions of ourselves, our potential naturally increases, which means that what might be limiting us today may no longer apply tomorrow.
3. Self-belief is powerful: Self belief helps us to stay resilient. Setbacks feel temporary, not final. Our belief creates positive thoughts. Our positive thoughts create confident actions. Confident actions improve our odds of success. When we believe in ourselves, we not only improve our own actions, we inspire others. Self-belief is contagious.
