Persist

As we reflect on 2024, it’s easy to get caught up focusing on where we came up short. It is natural to think about what we had hoped to accomplish, but did not.

Instead of wallowing in what we did not achieve, we are better off learning from our shortcomings then letting go as we prepare for 2025.

That way, we stay persistent as we head into the new year.

As the legendary baseball player Babe Ruth shared, “It's hard to beat a person who never gives up.”

By staying persistent and focusing on the future, we become formidable. This is true in both running and generally in life.

Here are 3 ways to consider persisting this week.

1. It tends to be darkest before the dawn: A cheesy quote that holds truth. The magic that we seek is typically on the other side of hard work, tough times and experiences that push us to our limits. When the dark times come, if we stay persistent, the sun will continue rising and the future will be bright.

2. Failure is a great teacher: Failure should not be the final step. It only becomes our final step if we allow it to be. By considering failure a teacher, we appreciate it for the skills it teaches us, which makes us more likely to persist and less likely to give up. As Usain recently shared, we must learn how to lose before we can learn to win.

3. Things take time: Despite how it might seem, overnight successes rarely occur. The media tends to simplify success stories by leaving out obstacles to better fit their narrative. By understanding that journeys to success are typically harder than they appear, we can avoid getting discouraged. If we persist, we can accomplish great things, even if they take time.

Thanks for reading. Lets have a great week!
