High-Speed Chase Zooms Past Marathon Runners in Islamorada

Runners in the annual Islamorada 10k and half marathon on December 10th ran along a scenic course, witnessed a picturesque sunrise and experienced a high speed chase when a vehicle with blown-out tires flew past with law enforcement right behind.

An hour long car chase spanning 44 miles ended only after the vehicle crashed at a construction site near the race course. The motorist, 42-year-old Courtney Epps, was traveling at 110 mph past marathon runners and blew through spikes while refusing to stop for troopers. Later she was reported to be singing gospel songs loudly in Mariners Hospital.

One runner was hit in the foot by a piece of tire but not injured. Another runner had a panic attack when troopers ordered Epps out of her vehicle at gunpoint.

While it could have been an “absolute disaster” according to race director Eli Bailin, now because of what happened “there’s an unbelievable story for runners to tell.”

Ikea Enters Fitness With At-Home Workout Collection

Ikea is blending at-home fitness with practical home furnishings in its first-ever move into workout equipment. Ikea is capitalizing on rising consumer demand for health and fitness by launching a limited 19-piece at-home workout collection that gives a new definition to “functional fitness.”

Dubbed the Dajlien (‘Daily’) collection, Ikea says its upcoming fitness product line supports everyday movement and creates healthy habits while complementing the home. The Netherlands-based and Sweden-founded furniture and decor retailer is rolling out the collection in January 2024, perfectly timed when many consumers are eager for a post-holiday reset.

You can expect to find exercise mats, a step-up board and a set of ring-shaped dumbbells designed for easy use, storage and even travel. A sleek, crate-style Dajlien storage bench (which can double as a coffee table) is also offered, complete with a non-slip mat. Additional products include recovery-promoting and stress-busting items, such as an air purifier, yoga straps, kneepads, a massage ball and a portable Bluetooth speaker, as well as wearables such as post-workout slippers and ponchos.
