$6 million for mushroom energy drinks, an English pancake race and the world's largest indoor track in Las Vegas.

Odyssey Raises $6 Million for Mushroom-Infused Energy Drinks

More money is on the way to the energy drink industry as Odyssey, a mushroom-infused beverage brand announced the completion of a $6 million funding round last week.

According to Scott Frohman, founder and CEO of Odyssey, the Company is taking a new approach to energy beverages. The drinks are formulated to support cognitive energy and prioritize aspects like focus, clarity and mood through a proprietary functional mushroom-based formula.

The drink includes Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps mushrooms. These ingredients are combined with L-Theanine, ginseng and green tea caffeine so the drink reduces jitters that typically come from energy drinks, while still providing a consistent energy boost with no crash.

Going Flat Out At English Pancake Race

Last week, women in matching checkered aprons, headscarves and running shoes participated in the centuries-old pancake race in Olney, England. Before stepping to the starting line they rolled their shoulders in unison, raised up on their toes and did squats while holding frying pans.

At the word “Go” they sprinted through the streets, trying not to drop their pancakes as they traced the path originally taken in 1445 by a harried housewife, who raced off with her skillet after hearing the church bells signaling the Shrove Tuesday service.

The 2024 champion was 44-year-old Kaisa Larkas, a mother of four who won with a time of 63.37 seconds. “It’s a horrible distance,” said Kaisa, “You just have to go flat out and then hope that you’re not gonna fall over.”

Marathon Legend’s Mentality For Smiling

Kenya’s 39-year-old double Olympic champion and the only man to run a marathon in under 2 hours Eliud Kipchoge has a idiosyncratic smile that he flashes while running. According to Eliud, the ‘Kipchoge Smile’ signifies his way of persevering during a difficult part of the race. The smile enables him to enjoy and press on despite challenging circumstances. It shifts his mentality to tackle pain as a positive factor in his quest towards achieving success.

“To smile is to enjoy. If you feel the pain, just put up with it because the more you move towards it, that is where success is. Say you are ten people and you are feeling painful then everyone is feeling it. A few of the people who will be able to handle the pain are the people who will be successful and will move to the next level,” the Kenyan runner said on the Feel Better Live More podcast.

When asked about pain, Kipchoge added, “Pain is part of success, just convert it into a positive thing and remember that success does not come on a silver platter. The moment you work for it, that is how you undergo pain because immediately you cross the line, the pain will not be there. If all people did not undergo pain, there would not be any success. The moment you encounter it, please learn to persevere and don’t quit. Keep pressing on and you will get to where you are going.”

Las Vegas is Building The World’s Largest Indoor Track

Las Vegas is building an impressive indoor sports venue. The Z Athlete Village will span more than 390,000 square feet and be the largest indoor track and field arena ever built.

Led by Zig Ziegler, the new arena will offer amenities including a 400-meter indoor competition-ready track, a 200-meter Mondo hydraulic banked track, an outdoor turf training area, a recovery center with cryotherapy and massage, four separate high jump pits, four pole vault pits, up to four shot put and weight throw areas and an indoor simulator featuring AI technology to measure biomechanics.

The venue is expected to welcome more than 192,000 participants annually with programs offered to provide runners of all ages with opportunities to train and compete in distances ranging from one mile to 5,000 meters. Training and competitions will be open to athletes competing in Ironman and special distance relay-running events.

Phase I of the facility is expected to open in 2025.

Half-Marathon Running Nuns

During a January half marathon in Naples, Florida, two women in white, long-sleeved habits and black athletic shoes crossed the finish line next to runners dressed in tank tops and short running shorts.

The two nuns finished the half marathon in 2 hours, 21 minutes, with smiles on their faces and cheers from family and students of St. John Neumann High School.

"This is never something I thought I would ever do," Sister Juliana Alfonso said in an interview with Florida Catholic Media. "This was not on my radar, but it was a beautiful experience. It was awesome how the community supported us. And the students were supportive and happy to see us at the race."
