2024 Olympic marathon runner set on fire by boyfriend in gasoline attack

33-year old distance runner, Rebecca Cheptegei, is in critical condition after being set on fire by her boyfriend this past Sunday. Rebecca suffered 75 percent burns on her body after her boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, doused her in gasoline and set her on fire at her home in western Kenya.

The fire was put out by neighbors and Rebecca was transported to a nearby hospital in the city of Eldoret for specialized treatment.

Rebecca finished in 44th place in the marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics last month.

An investigation is ongoing.

Lululemon has rough summer

Lululemon’s summer has included a failed leggings launch and lower women’s sales due to increased competition in the athleisure space.

The activewear company reported 7% net revenue growth in Q2 2024 compared to Q2 2023. While Lululemon expects net revenue growth of around 7% again in the Q3, the company has lowered its 2024 net revenue forecast from $10.8 billion to $10.4 billion.

Lululemon stock is down nearly 50% this year, but the brand isn’t alone – Nike and Under Armour are experiencing similar pains.

3 yoga moves to help you PB

Runners often increase mileage and improve speed work to hit new personal bests while neglecting core strength, which can make a big difference in running performance. Incorporating core-focused yoga moves can help you build strength and flexibility, stay injury-free and reach new personal bests.

Here are 3 simple yoga poses that will build a rock-solid core, promote better posture, improve breathing and improve overall endurance.

Side Plank: strengthen obliques and stabilizer muscles to maintain balance and keep upright posture during a race.

  • Lie on your side with legs stacked, one on top of the other.

  • Place your elbow directly under your shoulder to prop your upper body up, with your forearm along the ground.

  • Life your hips off the ground, forming a straight line from head to feet and tightening your belly and glute muscles.

  • Hold for 10-30 seconds, then switch sides. If this move feels too challenging, try the move from your knees, keeping your hip on the floor.

Boat Pose: engages deep core muscles, improving posture and endurance.

  • Begin sitting on the floor with knees bent and feet flat. Place your hands behind your knees and lift your chest, engaging the back muscles as you inhale.

  • On an exhale, lift your feet off the ground so your shins are parallel to the floor.

  • Keep your hands where they are, or for an added challenge, extend your arms forward, being sure to keep your back straight. Squeeze your inner thighs together as you continue to press your chest upward.

  • Hold for 10-30 seconds, then lower your legs. Repeat several times.

Bird Dog Pose: strengthens core muscles while engaging the back and glutes to improve overall stability and balance.

  • Begin on your hands and knees in a tabletop position, with your wrists directly under your shoulders and knees under your hips.

  • Engage your core and extend your right arm forward while simultaneously extending your left leg straight back.

  • Keep your hips square to the ground and avoid arching your back.

  • Hold the position for a few seconds while keeping your core tight and your body aligned.

  • Slowly return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side (left arm and right leg); aim for 5-12 repetitions on each side.
