A real housewife’s 10 minute prison plank

52 year old real housewife of New Jersey, Teresa Giudice, recently shared that she worked out every day when she was in prison.

While serving an 11 month prison sentence for charges relating to her ex-husband Joe Giudice's bankruptcy fraud case, she was in the best shape of her life.

At one point she won a contest by holding a plank for 10 minutes. She admits that she can’t do that any more.

Eat more fatty fish

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fatty fish helps to reduce chronic inflammation and lower the risk of chronic diseases, like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.

Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines and anchovies are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. More specifically, they’re rich in the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory effects.

Tips to eat more fatty fish

  • Add Sardines or Anchovies to Salads, Snacks and Appetizers: Use anchovies in Caesar dressing or on top of salads. Sardines are delicious on toast as an appetizer or snack.

  • Start with a Milder Fish: Salmon and tuna are easy fish to cook. Consider pairing salmon with a Dijon mustard glaze or simple lemon and olive oil dressing.

  • Enjoy in Smaller Amounts: Consider a dish where fish plays more of a supporting role rather than the central focus.

  • Eat More Canned Fish: Canned fish, like salmon or sardines, offer a convenient and cost-effective way to add more fish to your diet.

  • Stock Your Freezer with Frozen Fish: Keep frozen fish on hand for nights when you’re too busy to make it to the grocery store.

4 yoga poses runners should do before bed

Stretches can release post-run tension to help you drift into a soothing sleep. When your legs are buzzing after a run, try winding down with these yoga stretches. All that you need is gravity, breath and floor space.

  1. Bananasana (reclined side stretch): WATCH HERE Lie on your back with legs straight. Walk your feet to the right side of your mat. Reach your arms overhead and over to the right as well, forming a banana shape. Keep your hips grounded and feel the left side of your body stretch with each breath. Hold for one to two minutes, then switch sides.

  2. Reclined bound angle pose with cactus arms: WATCH HERE Lie on your back, bring the soles of your feet together, and let your knees fall apart. Reach arms out to your sides in a goalpost or cactus shape. Stay here for two to five minutes, breathing deeply into the belly and feeling your body relax and soften with each exhale.

  3. Figure 4 on the floor: WATCH HERE Lie on your back with both knees bent and feet on the floor. Cross your right ankle over your left thigh, just above the knee. Thread your hands behind your left thigh and gently pull it toward your chest. Keep your head and shoulders relaxed on the ground. Hold for one to two minutes per side.

  4. Reclined cow face legs: WATCH HERE Lie on your back and cross your right thigh over the left. Hug both knees in toward your chest. Hold the outer edges of your feet or shins if you can. Stay for one to two minutes, then switch sides

Compliance is the science

27 year old Michael Smoak, goes by the name Higher Up Wellness on TikTok and Instagram where he has has a combined following of more than 2 million. Many of his videos offer clear instructions - demonstrating Michael’s knack at simplification.

When asked about the most important element of wellness, health, or fitness, Michael responded:

“The best form of fitness—whether it be your diet or exercise —is the one you'll stick to. Don't pay attention to the best program, the best diet, the best approach to sleep or the best supplement. The best of anything is the one that you will do. Compliance is the science. If I were to die tomorrow, I would want people to know that this stuff is not complex. It is not easy to adhere to these principles long term. But the principles themselves are simple.

So long as you move, run, walk, crawl, jog, lift weights, I don't care. It's not which thing I should do. It’s what thing can I stick to for the rest of my life. That is the best program to follow.”
