Mom of dead workout queen spreads awareness about the dangers of energy drinks
In August of 2021, a 28-year old teacher, Katie Donnell, died of a heart attack. Katie would drink up to 3 energy drinks a day in addition to coffee and caffeine supplements. Katie’s mother believes that the caffeine she consumed was the reason why she had a heart attack.
More than 3 years after Katie’s death, her mom is spreading awareness about the potential dangers of energy drinks. Excessive consumption of caffeine can cause cardiovascular issues, including high blood pressure, heart arrhythmias and even heart attacks.
Michelle Obama and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. agree that highly processed foods are bad for kids
While speaking with Kylie Kelce, Michelle Obama recalled the criticism she got when speaking about the negative effects of sugary drinks and ultra-processed foods during her time as FLOTUS.
Michelle’s Let’s Move campaign aimed to fight obesity by highlighting the importance of nutrition and exercise for kids. During the campaign, Michelle received feedback that she was trying to be the ‘nanny state,’ and control what kids are eating.
Now, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is pushing a similar agenda that highlights how highly processed foods have a negative effect on the health of children.
Snacking, food addiction & food noise
“I eat way too many chips, even though I know they are bad for me..."
"I get into the cookies all the time. I think I'm addicted to sugar..."
"I'm tempted to try GLP-1 weight loss drugs. I've heard they put an end to food noise..."
Would you like to have more energy and fewer cravings for sweets? Consider eating 4 meals per day.
Many runners talk about food as if it is a drug to be avoided while complaining about feeling hungry. A suggested solution from sports nutritionist Nancy Clark is to stop snacking and replace those calories with a real meal, such as a second breakfast or a second lunch.
For example, if you get up at 5am to train then eat breakfast at 7am, consider eating an early lunch at 11am followed by a second lunch at 3pm instead of eating a single lunch. That way you are less tempted to snack on foods with low nutritional value to tame your hunger before dinner.
An app to disconnect
A Reddit thread has turned into a viral app that helps people increase productivity while supporting their emotional well-being. The app, touch grass, was created as a proactive solution to decrease unwanted phone screen time.
Ironically, touch grass hit the app store to help folks detox from the digital world. The app grounds users with an interactive quiz that calculates how many years are lost to unwanted screentime during a lifetime based on a user’s age and the average hours they spend on their phone each day.
