Replacing run shoes
Getting a new pair of run shoes can help you avoid injury and perform your best. Sticking with old run shoes might be the frugal choice, but it could also hold you back and increase your risk of injury.
Why is it important to replace running shoes? If a sneaker no longer provides the support that your foot needs, you can hurt joints, tendons, and ligaments in your feet, ankles, and upper leg. You also increase the risk of other injuries like plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, stress fractures, and shin splints. Not only are running sneakers critical for overall foot health, supportive shoes will make your miles more enjoyable.
When should you replace running shoes? The average running shoe lasts 300 to 500 miles, which is typically 5 to 8 months. But every runner and every shoe is different. The obvious clue that you’re due for new shoes is if the bottom tread is flat. Other signs to replace shoes include fraying at the toe or heel or a feeling that shoe has less cushion.
Nutrition tracking boosts weight loss
Data from MyFitnessPal shows that about half of subscribers who use the app daily achieved their weight loss goal within 16 weeks. This means that logging food daily can help people reach their weight loss goal.
The takeaway: consistent food tracking can help to achieve weight loss goals.
TikTok trends push more people to run
Running is seeing record participation levels as reflected by the usage of an English Couch to 5k app, which was downloaded a record 790,000 times in 2024. Sponsored by the Department of Health and Social Care, the app was launched in 2016 to help beginner runners go from not running to finishing a 5k (three miles). The app has more than 7 million downloads since inception.
The running boom has been driven by social media influencers who often run in groups to make the activity more social. The social media spotlight has put running in the mainstream by turning a niche activity into a popular way for people to gather.

The Cost of Speed Accelerates: To get a fast shoe for racing or training, expect to pay over $200. Super shoes have upended many historical road and track records in recent years. As the demand to be fast continues, the cost continues to rise.
