Oura’s $5.2 billion vision
Insights into metabolic and mental health once took days of scheduling, testing and processing. Today, many people collect the insights in real time by wearing fitness devices.
One popular fitness device brand, Oura, which recently received a $200 million investment at a $5.2 billion valuation, is on a mission to transform healthcare. The Company plans to do this by helping individuals avoid the healthcare system with improvements to preventative care. Oura plans to change that by focusing on preventative care, whether it’s for longevity, for health or well being.
FDA calls for at-a-glance nutrition labels on the front of packaged foods
The Food and Drug Administration wants to to help Americans make healthier food choices by requiring a new label on the front of packaged food and drinks.
The proposed labels would flag whether a packaged food or drink contains low, medium or high levels of sodium, added sugar and saturated fat. This is expected to help consumers quickly compare foods, by understanding which of 2 packages has less saturated fat, sodium and added sugar.
The new front label would complement the current label on the back of package foods, not replace it.
Black and white nutrition label helps consumers identify healthier foods
Overconsumption of sodium, sugar and saturated fat has been linked to chronic diseases including heart disease, cancer and diabetes — the leading causes of disability and death in the U.S. as well as major drivers of annual healthcare spending. Yet the majority of Americans continue to consume foods that exceed current recommended limits for all 3 of these nutrients.
