To live a long life, environment is more important than genetics

A study of nearly 500,000 individuals suggests that environmental factors have a greater influence than genetics when it comes to living a long life. The study identified environmental factors like smoking, socioeconomic status, physical activity and living conditions as having the biggest impact on biological aging.

Smoking was linked to 21 diseases, while socioeconomic factors like household income, homeownership, and employment status, were associated with 19 diseases.

The study found that cancers like breast and prostate (as well as dementia) are genetically driven, while heart, lung and liver diseases are environmentally driven.

Grand Slam Track welcomes sports betting

The inaugural Grand Slam Track (GST) season is just over a month away. The league recently announced that it will partner with Stats Perform to bring gambling to the competition.

GST believes that sports betting will bring new opportunities to the events and increase athlete exposure. Since there was a high-level of interest in gambling during the the Paris 2024 Olympics, GST believes this gambling interest will be reflected in its running events.

Compared to a typical track and field meet where multiple disciplines take place simultaneously, GST plans to operate a single race at a time. GST believes that this format will help to amass the largest possible audience (both fans and sports bettors) for every race.

Freshwater alga has been used a food supplement as a powder or in tablet form. It has the capacity to bind toxic metals including mercury and expel them from the body.

Venus Williams promotes healthy living with the WeWard App

WeWard, a free walking app announced a partnership with Venus Williams. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to encouraging healthier and active lifestyles worldwide.

Unfortunately, 31% of adults and 80% of adolescents do not meet the recommended levels of physical activity and Americans walk only half as much as they should (and rank among the lowest in walking activity compared to other developed nations).

Venus and WeWard plan to raise awareness about the dangers of physical inactivity, and highlight the health benefits—across cardiovascular health, mental health, metabolism, and energy levels—that come with developing a daily walking routine.
