New York Road Runners and ESPN Agree to New Rights Partnership
New York Road Runners, the nonprofit that produces the TCS New York City Marathon, has struck a three-year rights deal with New York’s WABC and ESPN — both owned by Disney — for coverage of the Marathon, the United Airlines NYC Half, the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile and the women’s-only New York Mini 10K.
New York Road Runners CEO Rob Simmelkjaer, shared that the appetite for running content continues to grow out of the post-pandemic running boom. WABC and ESPN2 have covered the Marathon broadcast since 2013. The live television broadcast, produced in coordination with 45 Live and distributed by IMG, will continue to air nationally on ESPN2 with pre-race and continuing coverage streamed on ESPN+.
A new live two-hour show from the Marathon finish line will air nationally across the ABC broadcast network, covering both celebrities and everyday runners as they complete the race. WABC will continue to broadcast a pre-race show, along with a countdown special and live coverage of the Marathon Opening Ceremony.
North African Stew Tagine Is Endurance Fuel
After Moroccan trail running star Elhousine Elazzaoui crosses the finish line, there’s a good chance he’ll eat tagine. Tagine is a North African stew, typically slow-cooked in a distinctive earthenware pot that allows for slow and even cooking, with the conical lid trapping steam and condensing it back into the food to keep the dish moist and flavorful.
Aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, cinnamon, ginger, and paprika blend with the sweetness of dried fruits such as apricots, dates, or raisins, fresh herbs, and crunchy nuts for a bit of texture. Savory broth is the medium to meld all the flavors together. Root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and butternut squash are typical tagine ingredients alongside tomatoes, zucchini, bell peppers, onions, garlic, chickpeas, and eggplant. Traditionally, the dish is served with some kind of meat, like lamb or chicken.
Foot Insoles Market Poised for Growth
The global foot insoles market is expected to grow 10% per year from 2024 to 2028, according to a recent report by Technavio. The growth is driven by a heightened awareness of foot health and the growing popularity of sports and fitness activities.
Corrective exercise specialists usually ask clients about their footwear during the assessment. A healthy foot leads to healthy movement. Orthotic insoles can be a good solution for many people.
Insole demand is expected to increase as fitness enthusiasts become more conscious of the importance of proper foot support and orthotic insoles are increasingly recommended by healthcare professionals to address common foot conditions like plantar fasciitis, flat feet and overpronation. The market growth is further fueled by continuous advancements in insole technology, providing consumers with more tailored and effective solutions.
First 60 Year Old Woman Runs Sub 5 Minute Mile
Last week, Irish masters runner Anne Gilshinan made history at the 2024 World Masters Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, by becoming the first woman over 60 to run a sub-five-minute metric mile. Gilshinan clocked an impressive 4:59.45. Gilshinan broke the previous W60+ world record of 5:02.38, which was set by American masters runner Sue McDonald last fall at the Nevada Senior Games.
The metric mile refers to the 1,500-meter event. The 1,500m is often considered the equivalent of the mile (1,609.34 meters) in metric terms and is a standard middle-distance race in athletics. Gilshinan was a runner in her youth but took a long hiatus from the sport before returning to it in her 50s.
Run Clubs Hit The Bachelorette
Several contestants on Season 21 of The Bachelorette, including Devin Strader, have bragged about their local run clubs on the show. After making it to the hometowns episode as part of the top four contestants, Devin took the bachelorette on a “love run” with the Good Guys Run Club in Houston. Houston’s Good Guys Run Club raises funds for childhood cancer research, and is undoubtedly growing in popularity after its appearance on the dating game show.
