Motivation from an 87 year old runner

Yesterday an 87 year old completed the 10K distance of the Manitoba Marathon in 1:53:36. The 87 year old, George Steciuk, ran alongside his daughter and granddaughter while completing his 10th Manitoba Marathon race. George wasn’t a born runner, but took up the sport at 75, just five years after triple-bypass surgery.

Whether or not you plan to run marathons when you are 87, here are 3 ways to use George’s story as motivation:

Set backs are temporary: George’s triple bypass surgery was a setback. Instead of giving up, George endured the recovery process and came back stronger, becoming a runner in the process - something he had never done before.

It’s never too late: While much of the athletic news is dominated by athletes in younger generations, we remain athletes until we can no longer can move our bodies. It’s never too late to start a new activity or training plan. Instead of using age as an excuse, get started becoming the healthiest version of yourself.

You don’t always have to win to inspire: George’s daughter, Angie, finds her father’s running to be meaningful and inspiring. Even though George didn’t win the 10K race yesterday, he inspired others in his family to run and live a healthier lifestyle.

Thanks George! Let’s have a great week!

Words To Run By 🏃‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️

I like what it does for my mind. If I've had a bad day, if I'm feeling stressed out, if I'm feeling overwhelmed — it takes it all away. It's my antidote for everything. If I feel any sort of emotional upheaval, I go for a jog and I feel better.
