Love
Friday is Valentines Day - the hallmark holiday created for love. Chocolates, candy, greeting cards, flowers, jewelry and elaborate displays of affection will be gifted to and from Americans who will spend $26 billion on Valentines Day gifts and experiences.
With flashy marketing ads and glitzy social media posts, it can be easy to focus on what we receive from the people who we love.
Instead of focusing on what we get from love, we can all benefit from focusing on what our love allows us to give.
As the late actress Katharine Hepburn said, “Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get–only with what you are expecting to give–which is everything.”
Regardless of who we love, lets not worry about what we get, only what it allows us to give. According to Katharine, if we love properly, it allows us to give everything.
3 ways to consider love this week.
1. How can I give more: Giving more allows us to love more deeply. By giving more, we add meaning to our lives and uplift those around us, which makes all of us better off.
2. What would make me the perfect partner: Reframing the question can help us to consider things differently. Instead of working to find or create the perfect partner, by building ourselves into the perfect partner, we become better versions of ourselves. This increases the chances that we attract good things. While we’ll never be perfect, striving for perfection tends to create positive outcomes.
3. What do I love: Knowing what we love can help us align with our core. Focusing on what we love can help us through tough times, improve our performance and bring fortune to our lives.
