Laughter

The average adult laughs 15-20 times per day.

It can be easy to think that laughing is something that we should only do in our free time, like when we are having fun or on a vacation.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Laughter is beneficial in many situations. It connects us to others, gives our minds a break, alleviates tension and helps us to overcome challenges.

As Deena Kastor shares “A good laugh is as good as a long run—it lifts the weight of the world right off your shoulders.”

By laughing, we spread positivity, enjoy ourselves and reduce the burden of life. Any time, anywhere, for free.

3 ways to consider laughter.

1. Laughter loosens us up: Instead of being uptight, laughing loosens us up. Similar to how stretching our muscles loosens our body, laughing loosens our minds. This better prepares us to perform at our best - whether it is in running or life.

2. Humor connects us: Sharing a laugh can break the ice, alleviate tension and create a bond. Even if the joke is cheesy, simply laughing together can help us to feel more connected.

3. Laughing helps us persist: Whether it is laughing at our mistakes, cracking a self deprecating joke or chuckling during a hard workout, laughing helps us to overcome challenges. One example is the legendary runner Eliud Kipchoge who has a deliberate strategy of smiling during runs to enhance performance. To Eliud, smiling makes him happy, which triggers his mind to not feel his legs. Regardless of what you laugh about, consider laughing the next time you face a difficult challenge or hard workout.
