Go
We often wait for others to tell us that we are good at something, capable of something or able to accomplish something. Although we await permission, we often don’t need it. Instead we simply need to go.
Since many people are more interested in collecting ideas than actually doing anything with them (Steve Garguilo discusses in his ted talk shared below), by taking action with a belief that we are capable, we separate ourselves from the pack and improve our odds of success.
As the late legendary runner, Steve Prefontaine, said:
“Life’s battles don’t always go to the strongest or fastest man, but sooner or later the man who wins is the fellow who thinks he can.”
Belief is powerful. We see this in running and many other areas of life. When the belief we have in ourselves allows us to go, we take focused action, which creates overwhelmingly positive results.
3 ways to consider GOING this week.
1. What is stopping me? Do I need permission from others? Am I being patient for a good reason? Is what I am considering impossible? Is my own fear stopping me? Lets figure out what is preventing us from moving forward.
2. How can I move forward today? If we can’t accomplish our long term goals overnight, what progress can be made today that pushes us a bit closer to them. Instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity, by consistently making progress, we create future opportunities for ourselves while building confidence.
3. What is the worst that could happen if I GO? If we take action and go, what is the worst that could happen? Sometimes it could be very bad - like jumping off a cliff expecting to grow wings and fly before we hit the ground - but often the negative consequences are not bad. Instead the worst things we imagine are often created by our own fears and natural desire to conserve energy. When the worst that could happen is simply discomfort and embarrassment, we are better off just going so that we can learn to lose before we learn to win.
Thanks for reading. Lets GO this week!

I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.
