Generosity
As we leave Thanksgiving weekend and kickoff December, we enter a time of year that makes us generous. We become generous with the gifts we buy our friends, the time we spend with our loved ones and the good cheer that we bring when interacting with others.
With the new year close, it can be easy to focus on 2025. The fresh beginnings of a new year and the improvements that it promises can become tempting to think about. Amidst the festivities, remember to stay present. French philosopher Albert Campus has said.
“Real generosity towards the future lies in giving all to the present.”
In running and in life, we benefit from being generous with others, with ourselves and with the present moment.
Here are 3 ways to consider generosity this week.
1. How can I amplify good things and dream up more positivity? So much reporting by the legacy media is doom and gloom. This can impact our mindsets. Instead of letting the negative reporting seep into our subconscious, we improve our mindsets and the world by being optimistic, amplifying good things and dreaming up more positivity.
2. If I channeled my creativity and courage, how could I impact others? As humans, we respond to generosity. It becomes infectious. So being generous is a great way to impact others. Even better, our generosity with a single person is likely to be paid forward, so channeling our creativity and courage to be generous can initiate change that is greater than we might think.
3. What could I generously give away? Generosity is often associated with money. But our generosity is not limited to dollars. We can give away our time, our attention, our hospitality and our kindness. Don’t worry about perfection. Being generous does not need to be a daunting task. Start small and don’t stop. Our generosity will eventually offer us 2 natural byproducts - meaning and happiness.
