From law school sanity checks to a 13-year "Perfect Dopey" streak with Patricia Carbone 🎙️
Running has a way of serving as a steady anchor through life's biggest transitions.
For Orlando attorney and law firm owner Patricia Carbone, putting on a pair of running shoes started as a midnight sanity check in the gym during law school. That daily escape quickly transformed into a 14-year distance running journey defined by incredible consistency, multi-day race challenges, and deep community roots.
When Patricia sat down with host Letty Lundquist for our latest Your Story, Your Why episode, we explored how she completed her very first marathon as part of Disney's four-day, 48.6-mile Dopey Challenge—and how she has maintained a "Perfect Dopey" finish streak ever since.
Here is how Patricia translated marathon discipline into courtroom confidence, built an active running community in Central Florida, and set her sights on the World Marathon Majors.
FROM MIDNIGHT RUNS TO 48.6-MILE STREAKS
Growing up near Boston as an academic and competitive swimmer, Patricia never saw herself as a distance runner until she tried a 5K during law school. After tackling Disney half marathons, she jumped straight into the inaugural Dopey Challenge in 2014—running a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon on four consecutive days for her marathon debut.
Fast-forward 13 years, and Patricia is one of only about 300 runners left in the world who hold a "Perfect Dopey" streak, having completed the multi-day challenge every single year since its inception.
"Having the running to take me through gave me confidence to find the right path in my career... naturally I'm more introverted, but running helped me meet people and find things that we have in common." — Patricia Carbone
BRIDGING ATHLETICS AND LAW
For Patricia, the parallels between preparing a court case and executing a marathon training cycle are striking. The resilience built on long runs gave her the confidence to launch her own legal practice and step out of her comfort zone to network and advocate for her clients.
CHASING MAJORS AND 50 STATES
Having already completed the Berlin, Chicago, and New York City Marathons, Patricia is officially preparing for the London Marathon as her fourth World Major. Alongside her goal of earning a Boston Marathon qualifying time, she is actively checking off her final 12 US states to visit all 50 before turning 50.
