Curiosity
The world is full of unknowns. Learning can help us to better understand what we don’t know, but there will always be uncertainties that are outside of our control.
This can be scary and create anxiety. It also offers an opportunity for curiosity, which can transform how we feel about the unknown.
Ultra-runner and best selling author Michael D'Aulerio has said:
“You can let the unknown scare you or you can let it excite you. You can let the unknown stress you or you can let it intrigue you. You can let the unknown create anxiety or you can let it create curiosity.”
We often see curiosity drive the fastest runners to run faster, curious about reaching their true potential. Not only does curiosity drive runners to run faster, it motivates many who work to do great things in a variety of industries.
Here are 3 ways to consider curiosity this week.
1. Can concerns become curiosities? Instead of being concerned about failing, can we become curious about our true capabilities? By reframing concern about the negative to curiosity about the potential, we redirect our energy and shift our mindset, which can alleviate anxiety and fuel growth.
2. What would our inner child do? As children, everything was new, so we were curious about it. As we get older, our subconscious thinks that we have more figured out (which we do), but there is still much that we do not know. Instead of shying away from the unknown due to fear or embarrassment, consider how our inner child would approach the unknown and imitate that response.
3. What if everything disappeared? If our responsibilities, possessions and relationships temporarily disappeared, what would we think about? If we simply had time with nothing but uninterrupted brain space, where would our mind wander? Whatever we would think about is probably something that we are deeply curious about. How can we learn from that and focus a bit more of our attention there in the future?
Thanks for reading. Lets have a great week!
