Alignment

When we run, our mind and bodies are often in conflict.

Our bodies feel pain. Our minds tells ourselves not to stop.

While we think of elite athletes as those with great physical abilities, it is often the ones that align their physical gifts with dedicated preparation, passionate performance and mental toughness who win the most.

As Eliud Kipchoge writes “Athletics is not so much about the legs. It's about the heart and mind.”

Aligning our bodies with our hearts and our minds is often when we grow, in running and in life.

3 ways to consider alignment.

1. Aligning ourselves: We often perform our best when we are in sync across our hearts, minds and bodies. By considering how we are out of alignment, we can address the problem and improve, so that we can fulfil our full potential.

2. Aligning with others: Who should we surround ourselves with? What people make us better? Who has complementary skills? Being around the right people can help us to make 1+1=3.

3. Aligning with something bigger: Aligning with something bigger than ourselves gives us meaning. It attracts good people into our lives, helps us to connect with others and allows us to approach life with a fresh perspective. Motivation lasts longer and tough training feels more bearable when we focus on things that are bigger than ourselves.
