A Special Christmas Message for Runners

Today’s newsletter is written by Letty. She is the host of the Marathon Running Podcast and YouTube Channel:

As the year comes to a close and the magic of Christmas fills the air, we want to take a moment to celebrate you. Whether you’re lacing up for a snowy holiday run, reflecting on the miles you conquered this year, or setting your sights on new goals, this season is about gratitude, hope, and joy—and running has a way of bringing all 3 together.

Running: A Gift That Keeps Giving

Running is more than just a sport. It’s a gift. A gift that teaches us patience, strength, and perseverance. It carries us through challenges, clears our minds, and connects us to the world around us. This year, every step you took—whether fast or slow, long or short—was a testament to your determination and spirit.

Lessons from the Miles

But as we reflect on the past year, let’s remember that running—like life—often teaches us lessons in the most unexpected ways. Perhaps you had a race that didn’t go as planned, or a season where motivation was hard to find. Maybe you learned that success isn’t always measured by a stopwatch, but by how you respond to setbacks.

Here’s one of the most valuable lessons running gives us: the importance of showing up. Showing up on the hard days. Showing up when no one is watching. Showing up when you don’t feel ready or when doubt creeps in. Because it’s in those moments—when we push forward despite the challenge—that we grow stronger, both as runners and as people.

The Gift of Reflection

So as you gather with loved ones, share laughter, and celebrate the season, we encourage you to reflect on the gift of running:

  • The quiet moments on early morning runs when the world is still asleep and it feels like you have the whole day to yourself.

  • The friendships forged on the road or trail, where miles pass faster with good company and shared stories.

  • The victories—big and small: finishing a race, setting a PR, or simply showing up on days when it felt hardest to do so.

  • The lessons learned through struggle, like discovering your own resilience when things don’t go your way.

Looking Ahead to 2025

This Christmas, let running remind us of the joy in movement, the beauty of progress, and the power of persistence. Let’s take pride in how far we’ve come and look ahead to the miles yet to be run. And let’s remember, we don’t have to chase perfection. We just have to keep showing up.

As we look to the new year, let’s carry this mindset with us: Every run is an opportunity. An opportunity to grow, to reflect, to connect, and to celebrate the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other.

Merry Christmas and Happy Running!

From all of us to all of you, we wish you a holiday season filled with warmth, love, and just enough running to keep your spirits bright.

Merry Christmas, runners. Here’s to many more miles, lessons, and victories together in the year ahead!

Words To Run By 🏃‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️

To me, I go out there, and I do what I trained. We prepare so long for that moment, so it's just kind of exciting.
